Disabled Adult Methodologies
a step forward approaching education persons acquiring disability in adult age

Project framework
The project deals with the methodological approach to the education of adults with acquired disability due to accident and to pathological events. Considering the employment as an integral part of the quality of life of each person and as an important "ingredient"of self-estimation, the chance to continue to work is a critical factor of the personal welfare. In most cases it is impossible to determine a complete re-integration of the person at work and in many cases it is impossible for them to re-enter at previous work. The second chance to find a new employment passes through an education (often non-formal, sometimes formal) to new skills and through the definition of a new role at job.

Specific objectives
The aim of the project is to prepare the trainers involved in dealing with such themes and provide them with common and shared guidelines in approaching formal and non-formal apprenticeship. The project objectives could be summarised as: development of a mutual knowledge about activities carried on by partners: through meetings/study visit and open seminars; development of a survey about tools and general methodologies (didactical and pedagogical) applied to the same target group: through a survey document; editing a survey and classification of evaluation tools applicable: collecting commented materials; to elaborate a guideline document to about possible adoption of tools and methods to the target collective; to investigate the possible adoption of common evaluation tool adapted to the impairment of the target group.

Methods
The methodological approach is moving from the main observation that the so called "second chance" for education of target collective has to be proposed in a contextual manner facing their real living conditions, their past life (before event that originates the impairment), their attitude and motivations. At level of didactics the approach will privilege "learning by example" and "learning by doing" techniques that are most suitable with the recover of proper abilities: in movements (especially for upper limb impairment), in cognitive abilities (attention, memory…), in using the proper aids to improve the performance (technological aids).

Project dissemination
The direct target group addressed by this work is constituted by trainers already involved in adult disabled education. One diffusion workshop for each country/participant is provided in order to reach the potential audience and to prompt participation and discussion about this theme. Linking the project results to national and international initiatives will be considered during the project development.
